Nemo's home!!!!!!!!!

Remember Finding Nemo? The part where Nemo didn’t know how to get home? Well, it was a good movie, but all the facts weren’t straight. An Australian-led Research Team says that clownfish swim, hear, and see well. They say that they use their senses wisely. These researchers were studied a coral reef in Papua New Guinea. According to them, 60% of the baby fish could find their way back to home which is only 300 meters wide, or 1,000 feet. The Australian researchers say that the parent fish were injected with a mere barium isotope which was passed on to their offspring letting them have an easy way to recognize their young. Although the team figured how the parents knew who their offspring were, they still had no clue whatsoever on how the offspring knew who their parents were or how they knew which reef was theirs. In addition, the group also didn’t know how the how far the small fishes traveled in their journey of about 11 days. Anyone could say why they think the fishes know which home is theirs, but one of the researchers said an educated guess would be that there is some kind of chemical imprinting going on at the time they are born. The scientists say that they found some similarities in how butterfly fish and clownfish came home, even though both fish have different ways to breed their young. Clownfish keep their eggs safe and sound and keep a very good eye on the nest where the eggs are. Butterfly fish give no motherly or fatherly care to their eggs at all. So, Nemo, you can find your way home!

I think this was very interesting to read, seeing that I absolutely love Finding Nemo. After watching the movie I thought that clownfish did not have good direction skills. But, after reading this article, my thoughts were proved wrong. Clownfish don't need any guiding to get home! Go clownfish!
